Deep Powder Snow and Sunshine

At Purcell Mountain Lodge, we are blessed with some of the best skiing conditions in the world. Large snowstorms from the Pacific Ocean pass across our slopes on a regular basis, providing upwards of 10 meters (33 feet) of light, dry snow every year. And thanks to the influence of the dry continental climate to the east of us, we also receive an unusually large amount of sunshine.

The result? Perfect powder skiing and sunny days!

Avalanche Conditions

Avalanches are always a concern whenever mountains are combined with snowfall. However, the Purcell Mountains are blessed with a deep snowpack that is inherently more stable than the shallower snowpacks of places like Banff and Colorado.

What’s more, our terrain provides the perfect combination of ski-ability and safe travel, with more safe skiing options than almost any other lodge in the industry.

You should never discount the risk of avalanches, but at Purcell Mountain Lodge you will always have the option of skiing in terrain where avalanches are unlikely to occur, or indeed where they never occur. When in doubt, you can always join our scenic cross-country ski tour (linked to “Guided Cross-Country Skiing”) on the meadows.
