Waste Reduction

Purcell Mountain Lodge produces very little solid waste. Our meals are all served Family Style, which means that guests take only as much as they can eat, thereby reducing the amount of garbage at the end of each meal. What’s more, our chefs are highly skilled “recyclers” of food, turning the morning’s left-over oatmeal into a delicious oatmeal bread for dinner!

Any waste that we do produce is flown by helicopter to Golden, British Columbia. Food waste is then turned into compost which we use to fertilize local gardens; recyclable materials are returned to the local recycling depot; and the minimal remaining solid waste goes to the landfill. Guests are always amazed by how little actual garbage the Lodge produces.
