From the very beginning, environmental stewardship has been at the center of the Purcell Mountain Lodge philosophy. The mountain ecosystem surrounding the Lodge is extremely fragile, and so we must tread as lightly as possible.

Our commitment to environmental excellence has led to a number of backcountry innovations: we generate all of our electricity from a nearby mountain stream; our custom-designed waste water treatment plant produces water as its end product; and our commitment to recycling and composting greatly reduces the amount of waste the Lodge produces.

Over 15 years after the Lodge was built, our systems are still used as a model for other remote businesses. In 2004 we were awarded a Starfish Award for environmental excellence from the Oceans Blue Foundation.
